Insomniac Explains Why PS4 Pro Version of Ratchet And Clank Isn’t 60 FPS

Insomniac Games has sat down and explained why the PS4 Pro version of Ratchet and Clank won't be running at 60 FPS like all the other games.

Yesterday, it was announced that Insomniac Games would be porting the new version of the Ratchet and Clank game to the Playstation 4 Pro. However, the game wouldn’t be at 60 FPS, despite having upgraded imagery due to the process of “Temporal Injection.” Now, James Stevenson, the community manager of Insomniac, has explained why the PS4 Pro version of Ratchet and Clank is like it is.

According to Stevenson, the reason that Ratchet and Clank will still be running at 30 FPS despite how powerful the Playstation 4 Pro is, is because the game was outright designed to run at a locked thirty frames per second.

Because of that, any frame rate changes are impossible without reworking the entire game. This has nothing to do with the engine, because the engine has proven itself capable of running higher frame rates before.

While other games that are coming for the Playstation 4 Pro will have the option to switch between 30 FPS and 60 FPS, the PS4 Pro version of Ratchet and Clank isn’t designed for that, so it’s stuck at 30. At least, on the other hand, it’ll look good when the game comes out, especially given how powerful the console already is.

Insomniac Games’s next game will probably be something that can switch between 30 and 60 FPS, but it doesn’t appear like it’s going to be the PS4 Pro version of Ratchet and Clank, unless they remaster the game somewhere farther down the road.

Even though Ratchet and Clank can’t run at 60 FPS on the Playstation 4 Pro, players will still be able to enjoy it when the PS4 Pro comes out later this month, along with a wide variety of other games, the majority of which will likely be able to support 60 frames per second. In the meantime, I’m sure that Insomniac’s next game will be able to run on both framerates.
