Crysis 4 has been long overdue but with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett on the horizon, Crytek and EA should definitely consider a new Crysis game. Since the release of Crysis 3, Crytek primarily started working as a Video Game Engine company, while releasing occasional games once in a few years. Crysis is still considered as one of the best first-person shooter video games of all time. The Crysis series revolves around protagonists wearing “nanosuits” along with abilities like physical strength, speed, defense, and cloaking.
Despite the recognition, the developer has mostly remained quiet about new games in the Crysis franchise. However, rumors are now on the rise about a new Crysis game, maybe an open world sequel of Crysis 3.
Speaking in an interview, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said that “It’s too early to really talk about it, because we don’t know yet. With Crysis 1, 2, and 3, we knew roughly. So even after Crysis 1, we knew what the next one’s could be – the different options of where we could take it. We stayed true to that. The technology and the storyline and whatnot.”
It has been years since this interview, so there are now rumors that the developer is secretly working on next Crysis game in the franchise.
It’s possible that the next game in the series will go beyond the events of the first game. That’s because Crysis was always intended to be a trilogy and its story was firmly closed in Crysis 3. Thus the only options for another story would be either through a prequel or a game set between the first and the third game in the series.
I think the Crysis franchise itself has life left in it. Whether it’s in a different game type format or whether it’s expanding upon this, it’s hard to say. That’s going to be up to the designers at the end of the day. Crysis was always intended to be a trilogy. We have a lot more life left in that to go back and try some unique stuff. Whether it’s FPS or not I have no idea, but there’s definitely a future in the franchise, a senior Producer at Crytek said.
The statement also reveals that the next game could turn away from FPS and expand into other game genres. However, a non-FPS Crysis game doesn’t make sense as this is what the players loved about the game.
Instead, the studio could make the next game full open world experience. Either way, it’s been a long time and we are more than ready to play a new Crysis game.
If the rumors are to be believed, we can expect Crysis 4 to be unveiled sometime soon, maybe at E3 2019 or 2020. Crysis 4 can also turn out as one of the launch titles for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Scarlett.
We are also very curious to know about the Crysis 4 system requirements as Crysis games on PC have always been very hardware demanding.
