Sony Interactive Entertainment might have revealed the specs for PlayStation 5 but we still don’t know how powerful it’ll be. We can only speculate until Sony confirms anything but seems like it’s 4 times more powerful than a PS4 Pro.
ComputerBase recently conducted a test to see how much power PlayStation 5 will pack. To be honest, the test isn’t representative of the final product given that the test was performed between Radeon RX 5700 and RX 590.
Given that RX 5700 is based on Navi architecture, which is also used for PlayStation 5, it’ll give us an idea who much of a performance leap can be expected of the next-gen console.
So it’s just speculation at best. According to this speculation, if PS5 features 10 TFLOPs of Navi GPU power then it should be equivalent of 4.7 TFLOPs Polaris GPU.
Meaning, PlayStation 5 should provide performance equivalent of a 14.7 TFLOPs PS4 PRO. For those who don’t know, PS4 Pro features 4.2 TFLOPs of GPU compute, which isn’t enough to render games at native 4K.
Combine this with a variant of AMD Zen 2 CPU, PlayStation 5 should provide a generational leap previously unseen. However, this is just speculation and take it with a grain of salt.
This indicates that PS5 should be able to run games comfortably at native 4K with Ray Tracing enabled. It’ll be interesting to see how Xbox Scarlett fares compared to PS5 given that both next-gen console support Ray Tracing.
Speaking of AMD Zen 2 architecture cased CPUs, AMD continued the trend to beating Intel CPUs with its Ryzen CPUs. Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs have almost taken over the CPU market and Intel isn’t able to do anything about it.
But that doesn’t mean Intel has nothing up its sleeves. Recently, Intel’s 14nm+++ Comet Lake CPUs leaked and they might end Ryzen’s dominance in the CPU sector.
According to the leak, Intel Core i9-10900KF will be the flagship Intel Comet lake CPU. The CPU features 10 cores, 20 threads with 5.2 GHz single-core boost and 4.6 GHz all cores boost and will cost $499.
However, I am skeptical of Intel able to beat AMD Ryzen. First of all, this is just a leak. Secondly, AMD’s 6-Core Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 3600X already beat Intel Core i9-9900K in 4K and 1440p gaming, which is a 8 cores/ 16 threads CPU.
If the leak is to be believed then Intel is aiming for 10-cores max while Ryzen 9 3900X already features 12-Cores/24 threads. My point being, unless Intel has made some serious upgrades to its architecture, I don’t see Intel beating AMD in the long run.
