Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti And RTX 2080 Cryptocurrency Mining Tests, Are These GPUs Worth It?

Let us see how Nvidia's latest RTX GPUs based on Turing architecture including Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 perform when used for mining.

Cryptocurrency craze has come to an end but earlier this year cryptocurrency mining caused GPU shortages and price hikes. Let us see how Nvidia’s latest RTX GPUs based on Turing architecture including Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 perform when used for mining.

Hardwareluxx used the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 Founders Edition to mine Ethereum using the Claymore Dual Ethereum GPU Miner v11.9 to see how well the Turing architecture performs for cryptocurrency mining.

Claymore Dual Ethereum GPU Miner v11.9 is yet to officially support RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 but the improved bandwidth of GDDR6 resulted in improved performance.

According to the tests, the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition managed to reach 49 MH / s clock speed while consuming 260 W of power.

On the other hand, the RTX 2080 Founders Edition managed to reach 36 MH / s clock speed.

These numbers might not seem much but compared to Radeon RX Vega 64, RTX 2080 Ti has achieved some impressive numbers since Claymore Dual Ethereum GPU Miner v11.9 officially support the Radeon RX Vega 64.

For comparison sake, the Radeon RX Vega 64 achieved 41 MH / s, the Radeon RX 580 managed to reach 31 MH / s while it didn’t consume more than 100 W power.

However, the tests don’t end here as the site limited the power for both RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 Founders Edition by 75% and overclocked the memory to 1,900 MH.

The results were impressive, the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition managed to reach 54 MH / s despite the power consumption being dropped by 80W and consumed between 180 – 190 W.

On the other hand, the Nvidia RTX 2080 Founders Edition reached 40 MH / s while only consuming between 150 to 160 W of power.

Speaking of the Nvidia RTX GPUs, 3DMark will soon be including Real-Time Ray Tracing tech demo to test how well your Turing GPU along with your system will perform when rendering games with RTX enabled.

3DMark ray tracing tech demo will only run on the systems compatible with DirectX Ray Tracing API which itself is being developed incorporation with Intel, AMD, and Nvidia.

Furthermore, Nvidia has also introduced OC Scanner, an automatic overclocking tool, that automatically overclocks GPUs with results that Nvidia claims will be stable in 99% of the games.
