Almost everyone of us knows that No Man’s Sky came out on the Playstation 4 and PC in August. Now, even despite the game’s hype evaporating rather quickly after the game was discovered to be a big disappointment, No Man’s Sky sales have apparently risen to over 78 million dollars’ worth of copies sold on the Playstation 4 and PC digitally.
No Man’s Sky first got on the radar of a lot of people when it was first revealed, having an absolutely massive number of planets to visit and wildlife to see, with all of the wonders of a galaxy at your fingertips.
However, when the game came out last year, despite the initial excitement many fans quickly became either indifferent or angry at the fact that there was almost nothing in the game, and much of what the game had been promised to have wasn’t even present.
While there was plenty of wildlife, there wasn’t any scenes like the ones we saw in the E3 trailers. There are only three alien species in the entire galaxy, leaving you to feel rather alone unless you go to a space station. Players can’t be seen even if you’re near the same planet, and most of the planets are only useful for quick flyovers unless you need minerals for supplies.
The disappointment and outrage at the game’s poor showing has even prompted an investigation into alleged false advertising by the game, which doesn’t make Hello Games’s future prospects look very good.
The No Man’s Sky sales, despite topping 78 million dollars, likely don’t even take into account how many games were returned to Steam and other refund services on both the PC and Playstation 4.
Disappointment for the game was so much that Steam and other areas even extended their normally limited-time refund policies to account for the sudden rash of disappointed players.
There is one upside to this, however: combined with the No Man’s Sky sales, all of the August PC sales totaled up to around 6.1 billion dollars for the entire PC games industry, alongside other games like League of Legends and World of Warcraft.
