No Man’s Sky Is Not a Multiplayer Game, Reiterates Sean Murray

Sean Murray said on his Twitter that No Man's Sky is not a multiplayer game, as the universe is so big you'll likely almost never see another human.

Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games, has reiterated that No Man’s Sky is not a multiplayer-focused game. The game, which will be releasing across this week for both Playstation 4 and PC platforms, is primarily a space exploration sim, and considering the formula the studio used to make the game’s world, it will be realistically sized as well.

Though No Man’s Sky is focused on space exploration and you can come across planets that other players have explored, you likely won’t encounter very many other human players as you make your way through the game’s galaxy.

Since the universe in the game is apparently so huge that the sun will burn out multiple times before every planet is found, even with millions of players buying and playing the game it’ll likely be a fairly rare thing to see someone else.

Sean Murray explained on his Twitter why No Man’s Sky isn’t a multiplayer game. In addition to the sheer size of the game, it’s more an experience that you have, walking around on an alien planet that you have found and claimed and named as your own.

Other things you can do in the game without seeing another person is fighting robots on those worlds you discover, fighting space pirates in epic space battles, trading with NPCs and crafting things from materials and minerals, building new ships, and who knows what else.

The game hasn’t even been released yet and Hello Games is already talking about building bases on the planets that you’ve discovered, and building huge freighters to travel the galaxy with.

If this isn’t enough for you you can just hold off on actually buying the game until Hello Games puts more content into No Man’s Sky, but if you just want to explore without running into anyone else for hours on hours, No Man’s Sky comes out on August 9 on Playstation 4, while its PC version comes out on August 12.
