Nintendo Switch has proven to be very successful for Nintendo and the company itself has high hopes for the hybrid console as Nintendo has foretasted 37 million Switch units sold by April 2019.
Speaking with the Kyoto Shimbun newspaper, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima revealed that Nintendo forecasts 37 million Nintendo Switch sales by April 2019. According to Kimishima, the company expects to move 20 million until in 2018 which added to the current sales figure will bring the Nintendo Switch sales close to 37 million units.
He added that Switch’s performance has exceeded expectations and the company is looking to drive more titles to enable new ways of playing.
One thing that has contributed to the hybrid console’s is the third-party support and Bethesda has been quite prominent in that department. According to Bethesda, Nintendo has been very supportive of the company in terms of bringing their titles to the hybrid console and added that while they have no plans following Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus but if they do they will share it.
We’re really excited to be launching our games on Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has been a fantastic partner for us. The fans of Nintendo’s hardware have been super supportive and excited for these games and we hope they enjoy exploring Skyrim, as well as blasting demons in DOOM and fighting Nazis in Wolfenstein II. We haven’t announced anything for Switch following Wolfenstein II in 2018, but if and when we do, we will let you know.
Speaking of Switch, while Nintendo has forecasted 37 million units sold until Aril 2019, however, Nintendo expects the hybrid console to surpass Wii’s 100 million units sold through its lifetime.
According to Nintendo, it wants Nintendo Switch to match 100 million units install base of the Wii console saying “The truth is we want to raise the installed base of Nintendo Switch up to the same level as Wii”.
