New Weapon, Weather, and Leaderboards Confirmed for PUBG Next Week

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was supposed to cut down on the number of frequent updates but there is apparently another one around the corner.

Earlier today, Bluehole Studio announced that it is preparing to push out a new build of the game. The update is scheduled to arrive on the test servers by early next week for at least two days before going live for everyone else.

Without going into details, the developer confirmed that “some of the key features” include a brand new weapon to the arsenal, foggy weather conditions for players to overcome, and multiple bug fixes overall. In addition, PUBG will finally receive leaderboards for the first-person perspective (FPP) mode.

That is not the only content in the pipelines for the popular shooter. A brand new desert-themed map has already been teased, which is much larger than the current playable map. It is still “months away from release” and should make it in time for when PUBG finally leaves the early access program by the end of the year.

More than 10 million copies have been sold so far and sales are likely to spike once the game arrives for the Xbox One through the Xbox Insider Program. Microsoft is not only acting as publisher but also sharing resources with the developer. This includes the engineered–photo-realistic–water technology from Rare’s Sea of Thieves, which is currently being considered to be used in PUBG.

Update: The weapon has been revealed to be a Ruger Mini-14 lightweight semi-automatic rifle.
