Mass Effect Developers Are Helping EA Sports Create FIFA 17 The Journey

EA Sports and BioWare has confirmed that The Journey career mode is being developed by select BioWare developers from Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

As confirmed by EA Sports during its E3 2016 media briefing, the upcoming FIFA 17 will feature a dedicated Career Mode called FIFA 17 The Journey.

However, what we did not know is that the developers working on FIFA 17 got some help from an unlikely source in developing The Journey. EA Sports has officially confirmed that select members of BioWare who previously worked on Dragon Age and Mass Effect series helped EA Sports in developing FIFA 17 The Journey mode.

FIFA 17 producer Garreth Reeder confirmed this while speaking with Playstation Access. In addition to this, Aaryn Flynn confirmed this while speaking with Glixel:

If you the FIFA Story Mode you saw trailer, we have actually contributed something that was a collaboration we had developers who have worked on it you have indeed worked in BioWare studio… but you were involved and we had a lot of feedback sessions with them respect to the FIFA team… they have taken our lessons very well, we have learned in the last two decades through storytelling.

The Journey puts the players in the shoes of Alex Hunter, a rookie and his journey as he moves up his career. We have already confirmed that it will work in a similar fashion as NBA 2K’s annual narrations and the in-game decisions and performance will alter the storyline – again this is something BioWare is good at!

For the first time being developed using FrostBite Engine, FIFA 17 is scheduled to release on Sept. 29, 2016 on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
