Marvel’s Avengers Captain America Costume Brings Up Secret Empire Comics

One possible Marvel's Avengers Captain America costume that you can obtain has been revealed to be based off of the infamous Secret Empire series.

One of the most well-known jokes that made it into Avengers: Endgame was Captain America masquerading as a HYDRA agent in reference to the Winter Soldier movie. However, now a Marvel’s Avengers Captain America costume is also bringing up a reference like that, taking a page from the Secret Empire comic miniseries.

The backstory behind Cap’s elevator reference is mainly involved with this comic series, which through cosmic comic book chicanery made Captain America into a HYDRA sleeper agent (which in turn turned itself into a meme.) Now that same costume will be coming to Crystal Dynamics’s upcoming Avengers game.

While we don’t exactly know the context behind the story of the game (save that a massive terrorist attack during a day honoring the Avengers causes the group to split up and then have to reunite to save the world again), the Secret Empire suit is just one of the many different Avengers costumes that will be in the game.

Since the game will be drawing on 80 years of Marvel Comics history for all of its different characters, the Secret Empire suit will only be one of the many costumes that Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Incredible Hulk have worn over the years.

We may even be seeing suits based off of their Marvel Cinematic Universe, though that hasn’t been confirmed yet since the only Marvel’s Avengers Captain America costume we’ve seen is the aforementioned Secret Empire one.

There’s no telling what other Marvel’s Avengers Captain America costume options that we’ll be getting in the game, and it’s likely that Ubisoft and Crystal Dynamics will be content to just let us find out for ourselves. In the meantime, however you can expect to be playing the game when it comes out on May 15 of 2020 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.
