Ever since Left 4 Dead 2 came out in 2009, people have been talking about rumored plans for Left 4 Dead 3 at Valve Corporation, who, being Valve, have stayed awfully quiet about the game just like they have about Half-Life 3 – despite rumors from as early as July 2013.
This time however, the existence of L4D3 might have really been leaked by one of the game developers at Valve Corporation!
Artist Tristan Reidford had recently uploaded an asset importing tutorial for the Steam Workshop on the official website of Steam where he was helping newcomers fit in with the help of pictures and stuff.
While all that is mundane for older users, there was one image that caught everyone’s eye. This image was a screenshot of Reidford’s desktop where he was explaining something. On the right side of this link a folder named “Left4Dead3” could be seen clearly.
Naturally, this means that some level of work is being done on Left 4 Dead 3 after all, and that the official word from the developers could be near.
If this appears to be a weak evidence to you, there is more. Tristan has also been seen playing a lot of Left 4 Dead 2 lately which also fits right in if Valve is using that to test some new creations for L4D3.
Moreover, there is a listing on SteamDB which has been regarded as the hidden page for Left 4 Dead 3 for some time now. This page has also been updated numerous times in the recent days, suggesting some activity is being held.
In the past, a former Valve employee has hinted that Half Life 3 will come out in E4 2017 at the same time when the alleged first details on L4D3 were shared by him. The most recent rumor about the game, however, came in January when one of the in-game characters got detailed.
The image in question was later removed, but you can see the tutorial post here.
