What really came as a surprise to us all was the name change, where everyone was expecting Gears Of War 5, Microsoft introduced it as Gears 5, which got everyone wondering what else have they changed and are those changes for the better? Well at the moment we can not confirm, but what we know is that Kait Diaz from Gears of War 4 will be the main protagonist in Gears 5. Rod Fergusson, the studio head at The Coalition has explained why is that so.
Gears 5 is slated to roll out in 2019, and it is bringing back the much loved and popular character Kait Diaz. We saw Kait in the 2016’s Gears of War 4, where she played the role of an important supporting character, by helping JD Fenix.
Those who have played Gears Of War 4 would never have realized just how important Kait was, until now when she is being endorsed as the main protagonist in Gears 5.
Fergusson relating to Mad Max said that, although the game is referred to as Mad Max in actuality, Max is a supporting character. He is really in the game to support Furiosa’s journey as she tries to escape and that is very much similar to what happened in Gears 4.
He said:
“It was really Kait’s story about trying to save her mom, and JD was there to help.”
So why not take Kait’s story ahead in Gears 5? Fergusson added:
“Why not embrace that further and let the player play as Kait in 5? It felt like a natural way to pivot the franchise a little bit, and allow you to actually play the true hero of the story.”
This all may seem fine and dandy, introducing Kait as the main protagonist and all, but has Furgusson and his studio anticipated the audience who can’t contemplate seeing a female as a lead? Is the studio ready to take that risk?
Do they not remember the recent Battlefield V female controversy? Which nearly seemed to surround the title from all directions and the game has not even rolled out.
Hopefully, that won’t be the case for Gears 5, what are your thoughts on the matter? Let us know in the comments below.
