Hajime Tabata: PlayStation 5 And The Next Xbox Will Be Cloud-Based

Many are wondering when will Sony roll out its next console, presumably PlayStation 5, to directly compete with Microsoft's latest console since PS4 Pro.

With the launch of Xbox One X last year, many are wondering when will Sony roll out its next console, presumably PlayStation 5, to directly compete with Microsoft’s latest console since PS4 Pro is a bit behind in terms of specs and performance. While we won’t be getting an answer to that but, Final Fantasy 15 director thinks that it will be cloud-based.

Speaking with Xbox Magazine, Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata talked about how he sees the future of the consoles. According to Tabata, the game consoles will evolve and follow the steps of the film and music industry which has embraced the streaming services.

If what Hajime Tabata predicts is true then we might be seeing the next-generation of consoles will be cloud-based and which means that gamers will not even need to have to own a physical console and all they would need a decent laptop or desktop PC and a fast internet connection to play games.

PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox going cloud-based will, in turn, change how players will buy the game and might go the way of the subscription-based services like Xbox Game Pass and PS Now.

However, the only hurdle to make the next-generation console to go full cloud-based will be the internet connection as not everyone has access to a high-speed internet connection that will be required for PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox. Also, this is just a speculation as the real decision is in the hands of the console manufacturers.

Speaking of PS5, while Sony Interactive Entertainment has been very silent about its next console but a Sony employee has hinted that PS5 will feature a discrete GPU instead of an APU which makes sense if Sony wants to go the way of native 4K for its console.

Also, Polyphony Digital is very confident about the next PlayStation as the developer has claimed that Gran Turismo Sport will run at 8K on PS5.

According to Kazunori Yamauchi, “It takes six months to create a single car. It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro. So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today”.

Also, Sony intends to continue with consoles for a foreseeable future and the company is also considering the direction for PS5.

Do you think PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox will be Cloud-based? Should Sony and Microsoft make the shift towards cloud-based consoles? Let us know in the comments.
