German Football Team Spent Too Much Time on PlayStation and Fortnite, Lack of Focus Killed World Cup Dreams?

German Football team spent so much time playing PlayStation that the administraton had to turn off Wi-fi in the camp during the World Cup.

Gaming is a worldwide phenomenon so no one is safe from its addiction, not even the German football team. During the 2018 FIFA World Cup, members of the German football team brought their PlayStations to Russia and take their mind off the pressure of such a massive event.

But the team spent so much time playing PlayStation (reportedly playing Fortnite) that the German football management had to turn off WiFi in the camp to get players off the PlayStation. It seems lack of focus may have played a role in the team’s elimination from the group stages. The team finished last in their groups.

The reigning champion lost 2-0 to South Korea, resulting in elimination. Part of it can be blamed to the champions’ curse. Previous 3 champions all failed miserably.

Also, this isn’t the first time something like this took place. Back in 2006, Italy turned off PPV porn options in player hotel rooms.

While Germans got a taste of failure, Epic Games are enjoying major success with Fortnite. The game made $318 million in May, a 7% rise from April. The addictive nature of the game has caused many issues over the past few months.

Recently, a 9-year old girl was sent to rehab to recover from her addiction. Schools are now banning Fortnite dance moves as bullies are using them to intimidate other kids. Still, Fortnite’s momentum isn’t slowing down by any means.

Do you think Germany could have done better if they focused less on PlayStation and more on the field? Let us know in the comments below.
