Far Cry New Dawn is the latest entry in the Far Cry series and is the first game in the franchise to be a direct sequel. However, in terms of physical sales, Far Cry New Dawn is a disappointment as the game only sold only a quarter of Far Cry Primal’s sales during its launch week.
Far Cry New Dawn sales were just 13% of Far Cry 5’s launch week sales, which is understandable since its just a spin-off. However, Far Cry New Dawn physical sales saw a significant drop compared to Far Cry Primal.
But, we are just talking about Far Cry New Dawn physical sales and a majority of fans might have bought the game digitally since it has no collector’s edition.
As years have passed more and more gamers are moving towards digital purchases. So there is a chance that this time around a majority of gamers purchased it digitally.
Another reason for these low sales figures could be stiff competition with other major releases. Far Cry New Dawn wasn’t the only game launched on February 15, as Metro Exodus, Crackdown 3, and Jump Force also launched the same day.
Metro Exodus is way ahead of New Dawn in terms of critical acclaim. This could also have played a part in New Dawn’s sales being low and Metro Exodus had quite a hype behind it and developer 4A Games actually delivered on it.
Speaking of Metro Exodus, the game faced quite a backlash from the PC community over Deep Silver making it an Epic Store exclusive. It’s good to see that many have ignored the store exclusively and are enjoying the game.
Far Cry New Dawn takes place 17 years after the events of Far Cry 5. As I mentioned above, it is the first game to be a direct sequel. Not only that, many of the characters from Far Cry 5 make a return in New Dawn.
Far Cry new Dawn is a first-person action shooter developed by Ubisoft. The game is available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
