Computex is a huge platform where hardware-related companies show off what they have been working on as well as future products and we are going to look at all the different products that are coming out as well as the announcements that have been made.
Nvidia At Computex 2018
There has been a lot of hype regarding what Nvidia is going to be showing off at Computex 2018. The following are the major updates from Nvidia at Computex 2018.
Nvidia Volta Based GTX 1180
People were very excited to hear about the next generation mainstream GPUs from Nvidia but there was no announcement. Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang focused only on HGX platform for AI and the SoC Xavier and didn’t even touch the subject of next-gen mainstream Nvidia GPUs.
Later on, a reporter was able to talk to Huan about the upcoming Volta based gaming cards to which he replied that the cards are a long way off from now and when there will be an announcement he himself would invite everyone. He also said that the GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti are available for MSRP and are pretty great graphics cards.
Nvidia Big Format Gaming Displays Delayed
Nvidia announced that the big format gaming displays would be coming out in Summer 2018 but at Computex 2018, Nvidia PR Manager Bryan Del Rizzo clarified that the actual release window is before the end of 2018. We are not sure whether the initial release window was a confusion or that the displays are being delayed.
Asus, Acer and HP will be the first to bring these giant displays to the market and you should be able to check them out before the end of the year. These displays will be 65-inches diagonal and will feature a 120 Hz refresh rate. Other than that the panel will feature G-Sync.
MSI MEG X399 Creation For Threadripper
At Computex 2018 MSI showed off the MSI MEG X399 Creation motherboard for AMD Threadripper CPUs. The motherboard can support up to 16 core CPUs and one of the impressive things about this motherboard it that it has 7 M.2 slots. You can check out images of the motherboard below.
There are three AMD Threadripper CPU on the market right now. In the second half of 2018, you can expect to see some new AMD Threadripper CPUs.
Asus At Computes 2018
Asus is a major player in the PC industry and while the company is mostly known for making graphics cards and monitors, there have been some new additions to the product portfolio. The following are all the products that were announced and shown off by Asus at Computex 2018.
ROG AIO Cooler
Asus has announced an all in one cooler, which is a first for the company. The ROG Ryujin is the top of the line cooler that you will be able to buy and the cooler will be available in 240mm and 360mm radiator sizes. Unlike other coolers, Asus has gone with an additional 600mm fan that is integrated into the CPU pump that will be cooling the VRM and other components on the motherboard.
If that seems like overkill and you would rather have a traditional style all in one cooler than you can check out the Asus ROG Ryuo that is a traditional style cooler that is available in 240mm and 120mm sizes.
Asus ROG Phone
The Asus ROG Phone has been unveiled and it has some impressive specifications. The phone does not have the notch, much like the popular phones of today. The phone is the first to feature AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms response.
The phone also features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor along with Adreno 630 GPU and 8GB RAM. Also, the phone comes with 512GB inbuilt storage which should be plenty for downloading and playing heavy duty games.
The Asus ROG Phone comes with a 4000 mAh battery with Hypercharge tech, which claims it to charge up to 60% in 33 minutes. Also supported is Quick Charge 3 and 4 tech. 3.5mm headphone jack is still there at the bottom and you also have dual speakers for audio if you don’t plan on using headphones.
You can also get a dock that allows you to play games on a big screen rather than on the smartphone. You also have different accessories like the JoyCons that you find on the Switch. Having physical buttons are better than playing games on the touchscreen. You can check out the device with the controller below.
Asus PROJECT PRECOG Concept Notebook
Asus has showcased plenty of interesting stuff at Computex 2018 and here we have a prototype notebook that has 2 displays instead of one. Essentially one of the screens can become a virtual keyboard and then you get the traditional laptop, but when you do not need the keyboard both sides of the laptop can be used to display information.
While this is a prototype, engineering samples of the product were still on display. While we do not have much information regarding the concept, it is very interesting indeed.
Asus ROG Gladius II
The Asus ROG Gladius II wireless gaming mouse was also shown off at Computex 2017. This is a wireless version of the Asus ROG Gladius II that came out last year. The mouse comes with a new 16000 DPI sensor from Pixart. Other than that there is RF and low latency Bluetooth technologies that will reduce input lag and provide and smoothe experience when gaming.
The battery life has been optimized and that company claims that the mouse will last 24 hours with the RGB lightning turned off. There are three RGB zones that you can control through the software.
Asus ROG Power Supplies
While Asus is known for graphics cards and motherboards, the company is entering the power supply market as well. The Asus ROG PSU was shown off at Computex 2018 and the Asus ROG Thor 1200-watt capacity which is rated as 80 Plus Platinum efficiency. These power supplies are designed to support overclocking processors and multiple graphics cards at once.
The PSU features RGB lighting and an indicator that shows the amount of electricity being used by the system at any particular time.
Strix Scar II And Strix Hero II Gaming Laptops
New Asus laptops have been revealed and they feature small tweaks for MOBA players. The laptops feature small bezels except for the big chin at the bottom. Both laptops come with either six-core Intel Coffee Lake Core i7-8750H or Core i5-8300H processors. You get 32 GB of RAM, the standard GPU is GeForce GTX 1060 but you can also get the 1070.
ROG Delta Type-C headset
The Asus ROG Delta Type-C headset has also been announced at Computex 2018. According to the company, the headset will bridge the gap between PC and mobile as the USB Type-C headphones work the with above-mentioned laptops as well the new gaming smartphone that Asus has announced. The headset features over-ear style padding as well as microphone on the left side of the headset. The headset is light and comfortable to wear and features RGB lighting on the outer shell.
New Asus TUF gaming line-up
New Asus TUFF series gaming lineup includes some peripherals and a PC casing that has been shown off at Computex 2018 and is worth looking into. New Asus TUF Gaming line-up, features the new M5 mouse, K5 keyboard, H5 headset and the new GT501 chassis.
The TUFF series ensures durability as well as the performance at a competitive price point. While gaming gear from Asus is pretty expensive and comes at a premium but the TUFF series is relatively cheaper and should not break the bank.
With the new TUF Gaming M5 mouse, Asus is trying out a new type of paint that will stand the test of time and will not peel off easily. The design is pretty simple and standard, nothing too flashy. The mouse does come with Omron switches, so it should perform well and other than that you get a 6200 PDI sensor, which is more than enough for gaming.
Like all other things you do get RGB support so you can sync the colors with other parts of your build. Pricing has not been announced yet but you can expect it to be cheaper as compared to other Asus gaming mice.
TUF Gaming K5 keyboard has a splash-proof design so if you drop a bit of water on it then you should be fine. The keyboard is able to endure 60ml of water leaking in. The keycaps come with three layers of paint so that won’t be coming off any time soon either. The switches are mech-brane, which means that while they are membrane keys they have been tweaked to feel like mechanical keys. The RGB option is still there. You can check out the keyboard below.
Now that we have the basic inputs covered, let’s move on to the audio and mic. The TUF Gaming H5 headset comes with a stainless steel band which should last you a while and other than that you have a microphone that comes off if you do not need it. You can also plug it in via USB in order to get 7.1 audio for immersive audio in games.
The TUF Gaming GT501 is a new case that has a minimalistic design. The case is mostly made of metal but there are plastic parts here and there. There is a tinted tempered glass panel on the side for you to show off your hardware. The GT501 ships with three high-flow PWM 120mm fans but there is plenty of room for additional cooling options as well. You can check out the TUF Gaming GT501 case below:
The TUF FX504 laptop is another entry in the series and the laptop features a 15.6-inch 120Hz display, GTX 1060 graphics card and Intel 8th Gen CPU. This will be released in Q3 2018 and we will have pricing for all these parts as the release day gets closer, so stay tuned or further updates.
Ballistix Series Memory In Collaboration With ASUS TUF GAMING
Micron has released memory in collaboration with the Asus TUF series. If you are interested in getting a TUF series motherboard then this memory will not only perform well but will match with your motherboard as well. I know that is something that PC builders are interested in.

ROG Balteus Mouse Pad With Qi Wireless Charging
Asus showed off a new mouse pad that features Qi wireless charging. RGB had to be included, so it is there. There are two variants of the mouse pad, one with the wireless charging option and one without it. You can use the mousepad to charge your phone if it supports wireless charging.
ASRock At Computex 2018
ASRock is another player in the motherboard market and has recently entered into the graphics cards market as well. The following are the products that we found interesting at Computex 2018.
ASRock J3455 Pro BTC+ Mining Motherboard
While the mining trend is dying down, it seems that is not stopping companies from pushing mining-related products and here we have the ASRock J3455 Pro BTC+ Mining Motherboard. The motherboard comes with a built+in J3455 quad-core CPU and is able to support 8 graphics cards. The CPU does not have a major role to play in this kind of a setup, so getting this motherboard will also get you a decent CPU.

ASRock B450 Motherboards For AMD Ryzen
While the B450 chipset has not been announced by AMD yet, that did not stop motherboard manufacturers from showing off what they had in the works. ASRock for one had a whole series of AMD B450 motherboards to show off at Computex 2018. These motherboards included the B450 Gaming K4, B450M-HDV, B450M Pro4 and B450 Gaming-ITX/AC.
Intel At Computex 2018
Intel teased about an upcoming CPU that could be even more impressive as compared to the 18 core chip that the company announced last year. The following are all the announcements from the Intel at Computex 2018.
i7-8086K Announcement And Giveaway
The much-anticipated i7-8086K has been announced. The chip is a special 40th-anniversary edition that comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. While that is the same specifications that you get with the 8700. The i7-8086K has a base clock of 4 GHz and can boost to 5 GHz. Other than that, the chip comes with an unlocked multiplier, which means that you can overclock it even further.
The pricing and availability of the chips have not been revealed yet but it should be out in the upcoming few weeks. Intel is also giving away 8086 CPUs in order to create some hype around the special CPU and you can click here to find out more and learn how you can get the CPU for free.
28 Core Intel X Series Chip Teased
This might be what Intel had been teasing before Computex 2018. While Intel did not reveal many specifications and we do not know on which process this upcoming chip will be based on, we know that the chip will come with 28 cores, which is more than what we currently have on the market. Intel talked about a clock speed of 5 GHz and demoed a Cinebench score of 7,334.
Update: It seems like this teaser was a PR stunt in order to keep up with AMD as the chip that was shown off was not a new one. The chip was also cooled with an industrial grade cooler that cannot be used by normal consumers. You can check out the details here.
This is a very impressive score for a single CPU but keeping in mind that this is indeed an enthusiast chip and not a mainstream one, it is going to be very expensive indeed. The 18 core chip that Intel makes goes for around $2000 and you can expect this 28 core part to be even more expensive.
Low Power Display Technology
Intel talked about new low power display technology that should increase the battery life of notebooks. According to the company, power consumption should be halved but that will also depend on the applications that you are using. A Dell XPS 13 was used in order to showcase this new feature and according to Intel, this new technology will allow the device to get additional 4 to 8 hours of battery life.
Details regarding how and when notebook makers can impliment this new technology has not been made clear and we are still waiting to see how well this technology works in daily life.
der8auer And Caseking At Computex 2018
der8auer is a well-known PC enthusiast and overclocker and it seems that the guy will be bringing some new products to the market.
der8auer Phase Shift Cooler
Last time, der8auer sold overclocked CPUs, this time it is an all in one liquid cooler. The der8auer Phase Shift Cooler was first shown off a while ago and now we have a prototype at Computex 2018. While the build is not final, we do get an insight into what we are getting. The coolant is being kept a secret though.
For Der8auer’s Phase-Shift Cooler, about 40ml of liquid sits in a CPU block, attached via (presently) a large hose to a condenser and tank. Atop a 7920X with Prime95 running, roughly creating about a 140W heat load, the coolant evaporates and drafts up the pipe as a gas. As the gas hits the tank, it encounters the condensers and gets cooled by a pair of copper heatsinks and 90mm fans. Once condensation forms, it slowly drips back down the tube and returns to the block.
This is not the final product and you can expect some changes when this cooler hits the market. We can see an RGB element but this is a prototype and hence the raw look and feel.
AMD At Computex 2018
AMD teased a couple of new things before Computex 2018 and here we are going to look at all the announcements made at Computex 2018.
World’s First 7nm GPU
AMD announced the 7nm Radeon Instinct GPUs based on the 7nm process. These will be the first graphics cards based on the new process. Radeon Vega Instinct offers 35% increased performance compared to the 14 nm. Furthermore, compared to the 14 nm the 7 nm also results in double the power efficiency.
This is not a gaming graphics card, but will be used for AI and machine learning instead. You can check out more information here.
7nm AMD Vega For Gaming
The road to COmputex 2018 has been a long one. People have been speculating whether or not AMD Vega graming graphics cards wil be based on the 7nm architecture as well. AMD CEO Lisa Su has now confirmed that AMD Vega graming graphics cards will also be absed on the 7nm process. While we have not release date, one thing is for sure, the upcoming AMD RX Vega graphics cards will be based on the 7nm process.
7nm AMD EPYC 2nd Generation
The second generation of AMD EPYC processors will be based on the 7nm process instead of the 12nm process. According to AMD the silicon is ready in the lab and will be shipped out for sampling in the second half of 2018. After validation, it will be released in 2019. AMD EPYC Rome CPUs will feature cores and 96 threads. There are other chips coming out as well that will feature up to 64 cores and 128 threads. This is something that we are looking forward to.
2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper
The second generation of AMD Ryzen Threadripper has been shown off and it will feature up to 32 cores and 64 threads. This is much higher than what Intel has on the market or has announced. Upcoming AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs will be compatible with the previously released AMD X399 platform. You can expect new motherboards to come out as well but if you have an older one then you will be fine as well.
In AMD demo, not only did the chip beat Intel’s chip but it was worth looking into that the chip was not liquid cooled like the Intel one. AMD’s chip was cooled on air which shows the lower heat dissipation. Threaddripper series CPUs will be coming out in Q3 this year and it will be interesting to see how well Intel competes with the platform. You can click here to check out more information.
