Cryptocurrency mining has caused a shortage of GPUs in the market and while ASIC Miners might be the answer to end the GPU shortage but, the ASIC Miners lack the ability to mine Ethereum. However, according to a report, Bitmain will soon introduce an Ethereum ASIC Miner in the market.
The report comes from Tweaktown that mining giant Bitmain is planning to roll out Ethereum ASIC Miner, Antminer F3. The rumored Ethereum ASIC Miner will feature 3 motherboards and each of them will be packed with 6 ASICs along with 32 x 1GB DDR3 memory chips that would make a very powerful cryptocurrency miner.
For those who don’t know, ASIC Miner is basically a barebone computer system which has no display port or any other function but to mine Cryptocurrency. This machine’s sole function to mine cryptocurrency makes it much more efficient compared to even the most high-end GPUs and CPUs in the market.
Reportedly, Bitmain plans to meet with several manufacturers in Taiwan and the production will start later this month. However, until Bitmain official announces it, take it with a grain of salt.
In related news, Samsung is also jumping into the ASIC mining business and has announced that Samsung has started to manufacture ASIC chips.
Samsung’s foundry business is currently engaged in the manufacturing of cryptocurrency mining chips. However, we are unable to disclose further details regarding our customers.
The reason why ASIC miners might be the solution to GPU shortage is that ASIC miners are designed to mine cryptocurrency and the more coins are mined, especially in the case of Bitcoin, the math problem becomes increasingly difficult to solve to generate more coins which at one point will make GPUs useless to mine and that is where these ASIC miners come in.
However, there are currently no ASIC miners in the market that can mine Ethereum and with Bitmain’s rumored Ethereum ASIC Miner, this problem could potentially be resolved.
Speaking of reports, another report suggests that Nvidia will be rolling out Turing GPU designed specifically for mining. Turing being a mining specific GPU also makes sense as reportedly Nvidia Ampere GPU will deliberately block mining at the hardware level.
What is your take on the situation? Will the Ethereum ASIC Miner from Bitmain finally end the GPU shortage? Let us know in the comments.
