ESRB Lists a PS VITA Version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Hinting at Future Release

While fans were disappointed by the delay of XCOM 2, it looks like they have some good news in the form of a PS Vita release coming sometime in the future.

While the delay of XCOM 2 may have left fans sad, it looks like they may be in for some good news. That is if they want to play the original game on the PS Vita.

Based on a listing on the ESRB, which officially provides ratings for games, XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus will be making its way to the PS Vita. It is safe to assume that this will be a version of the original 2012 game with something extra, which is hinted by the “Plus” part. We’ll have to wait and see what the extra content will be, but it’s likely to be the 2013 expansion XCOM: Enemy Within.

For those interested in the rating comments here is what the board decided:

“This is a strategy game in which players must save present-day Earth from an alien invasion. As players manage resources, research weapon technology, and monitor alien presence, they can dispatch squads of soldiers to attack human- and insect-like creatures in turn-based combat. From a 3/4-top-down perspective, players use assault rifles, grenades, and other military-grade weapons to kill nearby enemies. Battles are accompanied by intermittent cutscenes that depict close-up (e.g., over-the-shoulder) instances of violence: soldiers getting impaled or beaten to death by alien creatures; realistic explosions that result in larger blood sprays. If an alien “implants” an egg into a dead human, the character will eventually explode amid additional gibbing effects. Some scenes depict dead or dying soldiers whose bodies are burned or mutilated. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” can be heard in the dialogue.”

This has led to the ESRB giving it a Mature rating.

Already available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, no word has been given as to a release date for the PS Vita game.
