Dual AMD EPYC 7551 Benchmarks Leaked, 64 Cores, 128 Threads

AMD EPYC 7551 benchmarks have leaked over the internet and here we have the numbers. Two AMD EPYC 7551 CPUs provide 64 cores and 128 threads. The CPUs combined to muster a Geekbench 4.1.0 single-thread score of 3856 and a multi-thread score of 82255. The numerous cores and threads come in handy here.

The AMD EPYC 7551 is a little brother to the AMD EPYC 7601, you can check out the performance of the big brother here. AMD EPYC CPUs will be competing with the Intel Xeon CPUs for the server and data center market.

Intel has pointed fingers at AMD EPYC claiming that the CPU is actually 4 desktop dies glued together and AMD has been very calm about this statement. AMD said nothing until the official AMD EPYC event where cott Aylor, SVP and GM Enterprise Solutions, stated the following:

“There’s a theory out there that EPYC is just 4 desktop processors glued together. When you look at throughout the presentations today, from Mike Clark, about the memory sizes and features that he has built into the core and when you hear from Kevin the security enhancements that are in there, when you hear from Jerry about the over provisioning of memory bandwidth between the devices, you hear from Sam determinism features that aren’t available from the competitor that were built for enterprise. Hopefully you will realize this is not a glued together desktop processor.”


All things considered, I am sure that the mature audience knows how marketing and competition works and what exactly is going on here. AMD has been able to grab the attention of the average consumer in the mainstream market and the same can be said about enthusiasts and AMD Threadripper. It will be interesting to see how AMD EPYC effects the CPU market.
