Dragon Ball FighterZ Has Lootboxes But You Don’t Need To Spend A Dime To Get Them

Recently resurged images of Dragon Ball FighterZ has shown lootboxes that seem pretty reasonable as compared to other forms of Microtransactions available.

With Dragon Ball FighterZ’s launch date coming closer, we are all set to experience the new game from one of our favorite franchises. The main thing that is really getting us going on about Dragon Ball FighterZ is that this is the first time we are getting a game designed exclusively only for fighting.

This is a great deviation from the Xenoverse’s direction and we cannot wait to play it. Since the game is right over the horizon, the developers recently released some new snapshots from the game and in one of the snapshots, something unique and never before seen in a Dragon Ball game caught our eye.

Yes, you guessed it right! One of the screenshots shows new lootboxes introduced in the game by the name of Z capsules. The first thing that comes to our mind when we say or hear the word lootboxes is real-world money, however, with these Z capsules, it seems like it is not the case. Or at least now it is not the case.

The game at the moment features two unique types of currency; one is Zeni while the other one is Premium Z coins. Zeni is earned through battles while for earning Premium Z coins; you must have duplicate items in your currency. However, the name of the currency Premium Z coins is still fishy and we cannot get it out of our heads. These lootboxes contain only cosmetic goodies such as costumes and avatars.

For the time being, this is how it works. These loot boxes do not require any real-world money however we cannot be sure what the developers have in mind for the future. This could be only to attract a good fan base at launch and then later patch the game to include real-world money.

It seems like our favorite gaming franchise has also fallen prey to the latest micro-transaction trend that has ruined too many good game franchises in the recent years. We can only hope that overall the game does not rely too much on these lootboxes.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is slated to launch on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on Jan. 26, 2018.
