Destiny 2’s Player-Count Has Dropped by 50 Percent Since Launch

It has been more than a month since Destiny 2 officially launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The active player-base has dipped since then.

It has been more than a month since Destiny 2 officially launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The initial reception was great and as expected, millions of players joined the first week as new and returning Guardians. However, the active player-base has dipped significantly since then.

According to Destiny Tracker, a third-party platform that monitors and analyzes incoming data from the sequel, the daily number of unique players was recorded at around 3 million combined for both Player-versus-Player (PvP) and Player-versus-Environment (PvE) this week. The same figure was just over 7 million at peak a week after the launch.

The daily active population of Destiny 2 has apparently fallen by 50 percent in just a month, which also happened for the first installment but not at this fast rate.

To further add, the player-base marked less than 4 million players last week. Provided that the data is accurate, at least 3 million players jumped ship during this short interval. The graph is nosediving right now. The steep decline is likely to continue in the next week but may turn around when Bungie releases new content in the coming months.

It is important to highlight again that the data accounts for unique players in both modes and it is normal for the same players to regularly jump in-between. Hence, the actual number of active players may be lesser than portrayed.

The retail sales from Destiny 2 were reportedly lesser compared to the original installment. Without any confirmation we can only assume that digital sales fared better.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is scheduled to release for PC next week. The pre-loading should begin later today.
