Cyberpunk 2077 is the upcoming game from CD Projekt Red. The game itself is apparently far away from launch but, CD Projekt Red has been revealing new details. This time the studio has detailed the Cyberpunk 2077’s urban environment that almost puts Witcher 3’s world to shame.
CD Projekt Red recently replied to fan while detailing how big Cyberpunk 2077’s Urban Environment is compared to The Witcher 3. According to the studio, they can’t exactly detail how big the world actually is as there are a lot of buildings and the devs haven’t measured it yet.
However, the studio did note that Cyberpunk 2077 is a “tricky” Urban Environment with floors stacking up in buildings. Also, each floor is explorable and the world can be huge upwards or downwards.
According to the devs, compared to Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3’s world is flat. Not only that, each floor contains a number of activities for players along with being explorable.
This hints that there will be some underground levels that players will be able to explore. It is quite evident from the recent gameplay that Cyberpunk 2077’s world is full of life and activities.
Aside from the game’s world, the devs have been revealing subtle details about the game. According to the devs, the protagonist’s moral compass depends on the player itself. According to the level designer:
You will determine how your character looks like and what kind of abilities they specialize in. Yes, V exists in a world we’ve set up for him/her. They’re a character who, growing up in our version of a cyberpunk world, was inevitably shaped by it.
Also, the studio has revealed that it collaborated with the former Counter-Strike player to perfect Cyberpunk 2077 combat. Not only that, the game also features bullet-deflecting Katanas.
Furthermore, the devs have confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is currently playable from start to finish.
This indicates that the studio is currently working on the game’s polish and eliminating bugs. This also indicates that the game could release in 2019. That is if the studio manages to completely polish the game.
CD Projekt Red has only shown a single gameplay demo for Cyberpunk 2077. However, from the looks of it, the game seems quite demanding. The fact that the demo was running on a combination of Core i7 and a GTX 1080Ti, makes us believe that the Cyberpunk 2077 PC version will be very demanding.
However, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk won’t overwhelm the PC or the GPU as the game will be properly optimized on PC.
From the top we knew we were developing the game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. And we started the process of optimization right at the start. So that’s probably what you see running the demo is a PC with like an i7 and 1080TI, so it’s not astronomical specs.
Basically, because we are thinking from scratch about optimization, how streaming works, how to introduce global illumination for instance without overwhelming the PC or the GPU.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world sci-fi RPG in development at CD Projekt Red. The studio is yet to reveal the release date.
