AMD To Snuggle 20% Of CPU Market Share In 2018 With AMD Ryzen, Will Take 40% Market Share In Coming Years

AMD rolled out its 2nd-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs and APUs which have been giving Intel a tough time due to overall better performance and competitive prices.

AMD rolled out its 2nd-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs and APUs which have been giving Intel a tough time due to overall better performance and competitive prices, however, with the launch of Ryzen, AMD has been taking back CPU market share for its own which will reach 40% by 2019.

This is according to AMD CEO Lisa Su who expects that AMD will be able to grab 20% of CPU market share by the end of 2018 and this will increase to 40% in next few years.

Intel and AMD are the only two major competitors in the X86 processor market but, Intel has been the stronger one. However, with the launch of AMD Ryzen last year, things have started to change and AMD is getting stronger due to the fact that AMD Ryzen has overall better performance and competitive prices

Intel, on the other hand, is facing problems of its own with the delay of its 10nm CPUs and the Spectre security exploits has damaged its reputation among consumers.

While AMD is planning to take a chunk of CPU market share from Intel but, the company has confirmed that it is working on Zen 5 architecture. This is according to lead Zen architect Mike Clark who confirmed that he is working on Zen 5 mico-architecture while talking about AMD’s successful Ryzen processor family.

However, the upcoming Zen 5 architecture might skip the 5 nm altogether and will be based on 3nm process.

According to CEO of GlobalFoundries, he doesn’t think that 5 nm is going to be enough for the company to invest in it and 3 nm process will be required to get “full performance”. However, he didn’t confirm that the company will indeed skip the 5 nm in favor of 3 nm process.

Do you think AMD will grab 20% of CPU market share by the end of 2018 with the help of its AMD Ryzen CPUs and APUs? Let us know in the comments.
