One way to change an IP address is to change your Mac address that assigns you a unique IP. In case your IP is blocked by certain websites or while gaming. If you are in the same boat, you can change your Mac address following this easy tutorial.
How to Change Mac Address (For Windows)
First, I will like to explain the relationship of an IP address with a router and other intermediaries. If your computer is directly connected to WWW, your computer IP is your sole identity.
However, if your computer is connected via a router then router IP is the one that will give you your identity online.
In both of these cases, you can change your Mac address. If you are using a different orientation like a modem that has its separate IP, you will not be able to change your Mac address.
It is important to note that the manufacturer initially assigns the MAC address for a device. However, with minor tweaks here and there, you can change the MAC address for your device.
1. Device Manager
Start with finding your way to the Device Manager. Device Manager has been a part of all the Windows available as of now. You can access it by entering the Start Menu, by either clicking it manually or pressing the Windows key.
In Windows10, on the search bar, type “device manager” and you should be able to find it there.
2. Network Adapters
In the Device Manager, you will see the list of the devices that are part of your computer. Find the “Network Adapters” and click the arrow beside it.
Once done, select the appropriate network adapter that you want to modify and right-click on it. This will show you a drop-down list… select “Properties” for that list.
In the properties, there will be several tabs above. Select “Advanced”.
3. Network Address
In the “Advanced” tab, there will be a sub-heading named “Property” and under that, there should be a list. Go through that list, find “Network Address”, and click on it.
4. Mac Address Value
After clicking on it, you will see another sub-heading on the right “Value”. Under it, you will have the option to change the MAC address.
Do note that that you are not allowed to use spaces or any special characters in your MAC address. Moreover, if this option is not available to you, your adapter probably does not have the feature to alter its MAC address.
This is all you need to know about changing your Mac address. If you have any more questions, feel free to let us know!
