CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the most anticipated futuristic game of all time is looking forward to bring change in the industry by becoming a reference point and by doing it completely differently with Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red revealed their plans in a recent interview with Edge by saying:
One of the things about this company has always been we want to show the game industry how to do things,” said Mills. “We want to change the game industry. We want to say, ‘We can do things differently, we don’t have to do things that way.’ It’s in our motto: ‘We are rebels’, right?”
He then went on to talk about how the storytelling will evolve and will not prevent themselves from political topics.
Mills continued:
So when you’ve got other studios saying, ‘Oh, no no no, there’s nothing political here’, we say, ‘Yeah, there is.’ It’s not necessarily what you’re expecting, and we’re not going to talk about exactly what we’re going to say- it’s for you to decide when you play it. But Cyberpunk is relevant to today, extremely so. To pretend like it’s not? Come on. Mike [Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2020 creator] wouldn’t let us. Mike would throw a fit if we tried to say, ‘This is just about cool hairstyles and cool guns, that’s all.
CD Projekt Red looks more confident than ever and we have seen in the past that they don’t hold anything back, for which The Witcher 3 is a perfect example and its success speaks for it.
We can expect similar things with Cyberpunk 2077 and we hope that it will stand out with its storytelling experiences mixed with future technology. CD Projekt Red isn’t afraid of change and they are definitely believing in the success of their upcoming game.
They have also mentioned how the success of Witcher 3 gave them all the confidence and is the reason for them to not hold back from any change now.
Now after Cyberpunk 2077, we can expect to see a new Witcher game as it’s not gone and will return sometime. Though we will not see Geralt as the main lead but someone else, Ciri maybe? we may find out.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on PC and consoles in the next two years though there no release date yet.
