Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cross-Play Will Be Like Fortnite, Infinity Ward Explains

Infinity Ward’s producer Candice Harris has now explained how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross play is going to work later this year.

One Infinity Ward developer has finally explained how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cross-Play will work. In case you don’t know already, IW has confirmed that the game will support cross-play to unite the community but the developer didn’t reveal exactly how it’s going to happen.

Finally, Infinity Ward’s producer Candice Harris took it to Twitter recently to confirm that cross-play will allow everyone to play together and most importantly how.

Afterward, Candice provided a link to a Forbes’ article to explain how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Cross-Play will work.

According to Forbes’ article, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross play will work similarly to Fortnite.

This way, Call of Duty 2019 players will be matched with players across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that have similar input devices like controllers or keyboard and mouse. It means that if you are playing with a controller, you will be matched with lobbies filled with players who are also using controllers.

On the other hand, if you create a party of players comprising of mixed input devices then you’ll be matched with every type of player regardless of their input device (controller or keyboard).

Fortnite-style “input matchmaking” will help avoid PC players stomping everyone, as is a common concern. You match with other players with your style of input, controller or M+K, and only go “out of your league” if you’re partied with a PC friend on console, which will get you into mainly PC games.

One way or another, it’s safe to that COD players will be finally able to play with their friends across different platforms. We can expect Infinity Ward to talk about cross-play in detail at E3 2019. Until that happens, it’s better to take things lightly.

Cross-play is just one of the many features coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019. Infinity Ward has also announced that for the first there will be no paid DLC this year as there’s no season pass with the upcoming game.

No season pass is part of IW’s plan to unite the community as it will allow everyone to play on new maps together unlike Call of Duty Black Ops 4 or Advanced Warfare.

Unfortunately, Xbox One and PC players will have to wait a week more to get their hands on Call of Duty 2019 DLC as compared to PS4 players. That’s because of the on going DLC exclusivity deal between Sony and Activision.
