Call of Cthulhu Changes Developers, Now Looking at 2017 Release

The next generation Call of Cthulhu game's developer has changed from Frogware to Cyanide Studio, with a release date revealed as 2017.

Call of Cthulhu looks to be heading towards a 2017 release, and there looks to have been a change in developers. Previously in development by Frogware who worked on the Sherlock Holmes games, it is now in the hands of Cyanide Studio.

Cyanide Studios are the developers of Styx: Master of Shadows, which was a relatively warm received stealth game on the PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. Today we also were able to see the first piece of artwork, which was made available on playfront.

Not much is known about the game right now, though it is of course based on HP Lovecraft’s classic horror story and mythos that he created. It is interesting that the developer has changed, as Frogware announced they were working on the game in 2014. The change in developers may be the reason for the 2017 release date.

As you can see from images previously released by Frogware in 2014 the style is staying similar, which is somewhat expected by the subject. I’d not be surprised if it was revealed that this was even previous artwork. Call of Cthulhu is a game where dark depressing settings are to be expected, as well as tentacled monsters from the deep.

With the change in developers, it will be interesting to see what impact this will have on the gameplay, though until we see more information about the game itself, there is little known. All we have to go on is the artwork, and that is not much.

Hopefully the change in developer won’t create some development hell for Call of Cthulhu and we’ll be able to see more on it soon.
