There are still a few days remaining before Avengers: Infinity War finally premieres in China but the highly anticipated installment has already set a new record in advance ticket sales.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter earlier today, Avengers: Infinity War has raked in more than $47.5 million in pre-sales from the country. This is more than any other movie (domestic and foreign) previously released in China and just a tad more than Monster Hunt 2 (2018) that previously held the same honor with $47 million.

The Fate of the Furious (2017) was the last offering from Hollywood with the most advanced ticket sales earned in China, amounting to nearly $25 million. Avengers: Infinity War has now completely demolished that record and is the new Hollywood champion for the country.

Avengers: Infinity War has been running in theaters worldwide since April 27, 2018. However, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will only open in China on May 11, 2018.

Avengers: Infinity War has been to end up becoming the highest-grossing comic book adaptation of all time with possibly $2 billion from the worldwide box office.

The Avengers (2012) is currently the only comic book adaptation that has come close to breaching the said barrier with $1.5 billion. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Black Panther (2018) follow closely behind with $1.4 billion and $1.3 billion respectively.

It should be noted that China is one of the largest movie markets in the world. While Avengers: Infinity War already surpassed the $1 billion threshold earlier this week, the upcoming release in China is expected to give earnings a significant boost.

There is also an untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, in the works that is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019. There is no word on whether it will also release in China after a minor delay or not.
