Will Ant-Man and the Wasp Impact Avengers: Infinity War in the MCU?

It was previously believed that Ant-Man and the Wasp could have a dire impact on the events taking place in Avengers: Infinity War.

It was previously believed that Ant-Man and the Wasp could have a dire impact on the events taking place in Avengers: Infinity War. This speculation–strong to a degree–was based on how the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been following a linear timeline. Since the sequel arrives after Thanos has invaded Earth, it was natural for fans to craft theories on how the storyline could affect the ending to the saga.

The first official trailer released for Ant-Man and the Wasp earlier today confirmed that the movie adaptation will take place right after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War. The footage revealed so far makes it adamant that our planet is still functional and is not on the verge of annihilation because of the arrival of the mad titan.

Hence, Ant-Man and the Wasp will simply be a standalone movie that tidies up a few questions left unanswered after the shrinking thief-turned-superhero decided to side with Captain America against the band of Iron Man. The government was never going to let such a conflict, right in its backyard, go away. Ant-Man ended up being taken into custody and had his suit confiscated. Suddenly, the technology that his mentor had been trying to protect for years is now in the wild.

Ant-Man and the Wasp might still feature a few references to the upcoming conflict in Avengers: Infinity War, perhaps in the post-credits scene, but will mostly be about the superhero straightening out his own problems.

Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, is trying to deal with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and father. While he struggles to balance both responsibilities, he is approached by Dr. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, once again for an urgent mission. This time though, he will be teaming up with Hope van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, who has her own suit that comes with cool upgrades such as blasters and a pair of wings.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will open in theaters on July 6, 2018. Avengers: Infinity War will arrive earlier on May 4, 2018.
