A Plague Tale Innocence is now availble for PC and consoles and the reception for the game is quite positive. However, the PC version of the game is far from perfect as players are experiencing A Plague Tale Innocence errors like crashes, FPS drops, stuttering and more.

Here I have compiled a list of A Plague Tale Innocence errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their fixes and workarounds.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale Innocence is a game from a small developer but don’t let that fool you as the game is beautiful and well optimized.

With so many PC configurations out there, performance issues and errors and bound to pop up. Players are reporting issues with A Plague Tale Innocence like crashes and more.

The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

Crashes

Players are experiencing random crashes while playing A Plague Tale Innocence. Here are a few fixes that might help you with this issue.

Make sure you are using the latest GPU drivers as they bring game specific-optimizations and the older drivers can cause the game to crash.

One of the reasons for the game to crash could be that you are using a third-party monitoring utility like MSI Afterburner. Just disable any third-party monitoring software you are using and the game should stop crashing.

If you don’t want to disable/uninstall MSI Afterburner then follow the following steps that will help you with the crashes.

  • Open RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
  •  Click Add button (bottom left).
  •  Navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > A Plague Tale Innocence.
  •  Add APlagueTaleInnocence_x64.exe application under Application profile properties.
  •  Set Application detection level to None for the game application.
  •  Close RivaTuner Statistics Server.
  •  Test.

Another reason for the game crash could be an overclocked GPU. You can avoid these by either reverting GPU clock speeds back to its default. If the GPU is factory overclocked then just reduce the clock speed by 100 MHz using MSI Afterburner.

If you don’t want to mess with GPU clock speed then you can avoid the crashes by locking A Plague Tale Innocence at 30 FPS. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.

Select the game from the list and set “Vertical Sync” to “Adaptive half refresh rate”. Start the game and the display mode should be set at Fullscreen and disable the V.sync in-game.

The game will be locked at 30 FPS and will reduce the load on the GPU and the game shouldn’t crash.

UltraWide Fix

A Plague Tale Innocence doesn’t officially have ultrawide support, at the time of writing. However, this issue can be fixed. Follow this link and follow the instructions and you will have Ultrawide support for the game.

How To Disable Chromatic Aberration

A Plague Tale Innocence has Chromatic Aberration turned on by default and there is no in-game option to disable it. Obviously, the developers have forced it for the sake of the presentation but there is a way to disable Chromatic Aberration.

Go to Documents> My Games> A Plague Tale Innocence. You will find a file named “ENGINESETTINGS”. Open the file in notepad and look for “PostProcess” and under it will be all of the effect implemented in the game along with their values.

All you have to do is change value for “Fringe” from 1 to 0. Save it and start the game and the Chromatic Aberration should be turned off.

Black Screen Fix

The black screen on startup is a common issue in PC games but not a critical one. To fix this, start the game and when the black screen appears press “ALT+Enter” and the game will go into Windowed mode.

Now, the game will start to display. Go to the video settings and change the game’s resolution to your monitor’s resolution and you will be able to play the game in fullscreen.

Low FPS, Stuttering Fix

Players are reporting that they are experiencing low fps and Stuttering while playing A Plague Tale Innocence. Here are a few things that you can do to boost FPS and get rid of the stuttering.

However, do note that the game is quite heavy on the CPU and the following tweaks might not work if your CPU is weak. Firstly, update your GPU drivers to the latest version and make sure there is no background process using too much of your HDD.

Open Nvidia Control Panel> Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the list and make the following changes.

Set “Power Management Mode” to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
Set “Texture Filtering- Quality” to “High Performance”

This should eliminate stuttering from the game and your gameplay experience should be smooth. If this doesn’t do anything for you then there is one more thing.

But, you need at least GTX 10 series GPU for it. Open Nvidia Control Panel> Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game and set Vertical sync to “Fast”. This should give you a potential FPS boost and stuttering will be eliminated.

That is all for our A Plague Tale Innocence Errors and fixes for issues like the crashes, black screen, FPS drops and more.
