Nvidia isn’t in the mood for revealing its next-gen GPUs any time soon. However, seems like the upcoming Nvidia GTX 1180 and other next-gen GPUs from Nvidia could be delayed as reportedly 300,000 GPUs have been returned to Nvidia by a major OEM partner.
The report comes from SeekingAlpha, who revealed that reports have come in from Taiwan that a major Taiwanese OEM has returned 300,000 GPUs to Nvidia which could potentially result in Nvidia delaying its next-gen Nvidia GTX 1180 and other next-gen GPUs due to access of the older GPUs in the inventory.
Reports out of Taiwan now suggest that NVIDIA has a gaming GPU inventory problem. ‘Semiaccurate’ reported on the issue yesterday, and cited excess inventory in the channel as the primary reason for new gaming GPU delay. The glut is so severe that one top Asian OEM partner reportedly returned 300k GPUs to NVIDIA.
Not only that, Nvidia was supposed to do a presentation at Hotchips 30 titled “Next Generation Mainstream GPU”, however, the presentation is no longer in the schedule.
Couple this with Nvidia CEO’s statement that next-gen GPUs are way off from now, it has raised many questions about the release of the upcoming Nvidia GTX 1180 and next-gen GPUs.
The reason why 300,000 GPUs were returned to Nvidia is that the company overestimated the demand for mining and with cryptocurrency mining trend going downwards, the access GPUs have been returned to Nvidia.
If you still have any doubts about the severity of the situation then the report has also revealed that the Taiwanese OEM, who has returned 300,000 GPUs to Nvidia, is one of the top 3 OEMs in Taiwan.
All of this puts a big question mark on the rumors and speculations suggesting that next-gen Nvidia GPUs will be rolling out between July 2018 and August 2018.
Not only that, recently Power Logic, leading manufacturer of cooling fans for GPUs, noted that next-gen Nvidia GPU will be out in Q3 2018.
According to Power Logic chairman Hsu Wen-Fang, he expects company’s revenue to increase significantly due to a buy order from one the Nvidia’s AIB partners.
