After the rumors that a remake for Resident Evil 3 might be in the making, a new one suggests that Resident Evil 8 will be happening for next-gen consoles. This doesn’t come as a surprise since we knew that the franchise was not over and it will get the most out of Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.
The leak surfaced on Twitter by user EvilVR, who claims to know that Resident Evil 8 will release on next-gen consoles, making it a title that will launch 2 to 3 years from now.
This is happening due to the big upgrade to the RE engine, which according to EvilVR, includes the addition of cel-shading effects and optimization for mobile devices including Nintendo Switch, Apple TV and more. He claims:
If the leak timeline is on point, then we should expect the Resident Evil 3 Remake to release in 2020, while Resident Evil 8 will succeed it in 2021. if Capcom is already working on the RE Engine upgrade, which looks highly possible, then we might be looking at a faster development cycle than usually.
Capcom was said to have outsourced RE 3 Remake to a third-party developer, speculated to be Platinum Games. Although nothing is yet confirmed, there’s still much we don’t know about the future of Resident Evil.
Note that Capcom hasn’t made any official announcements. For now, everything said is nothing more than rumors so take everything with a grain of salt. If and when Resident Evil 8 gets announced will happen with plenty of expectations after the successful launch of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 8. For the time being, we’ll have to settle with Project Resistance which is currently in active development
