Players don’t just run into Legendary Animals, instead, these creatures need to be hunted down by going to their natural habitat which is typically marked on the map with their icon and a crown above it.

Hunting the Legendary Coyote in RDR2 will get you the Legendary Coyote Pelt and Legendary Coyote Claw. The Claw can be used to craft Coyote Fang Trinket, which increases Dead Eye XP gain by 10%.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Legendary Coyote Location

To find the Legendary Coyote, head to Clemens Point in the Scarlet region of Lemoyne. Southwest of Dewberry Creek, just south and slightly west from Emerald Ranch, you can find the legendary coyote among the trees near Scarlet.

How to Kill the Legendary Coyote
When you reach the surrounding area of the Coyote, you will get a prompt saying that you have “entered Legendary Animal area”.

Use the eagle eye ability to search the surroundings for different clues like fur, dung etc. Interact with the clue which will form a trail that will lead you to the general surrounding of the Legendary Coyote. Use Eagle Eye ability to follow the trail.

Following the trail will lead you to more clues. In the case of the Legendary Coyote, there are three evidence markers. Follow these clues. Your eagle eye shows Coyote’s tracks with golden sparkles so should be easy to chase.

Be Careful not to make any type of noise in the legendary territory as the Legendary Coyote will attack you even on the slightest of noise cue. Use Eagle Eye to spot the Legendary Coyote.

After spotting the Legendary Coyote, you can either try to kill it from range or try and sneak closer to it. But keep in mind that the Coyote will flee or attack (most likely) if it spots you.

From range, you can use a sniper rifle or bow to kill it. Go for the headshot for one shot one kill as it will start to run once you fire at it. Use dead-eye for help in shots.

From close range, you can use a heavy revolver to hunt it down. You cannot damage the pelt of Legendary animal, so take as many shots as required.

If you scare away the animal, put down a campfire and sleep for 72 hours to hunt the animal again.

How to Skin the Legendary Coyote
After the Legendary Coyote has fallen, approach it and skin it to obtain the Legendary pelt. You can sell the Legendary Coyote Pelt to the Trapper. This will earn you some gold and also unlock Legendary Coyote Pelt Items for crafting.

Here are the items you can craft at the Trapper using the legendary Coyote pelt:

  • Legendary Coyote Mountain Hat requires Legendary Coyote Pelt x1 and Eagle Feather x2 and will cost you $23.
  • Legendary Coyote Half Chaps requires Legendary Coyote Pelt x1 and Perfect Fox Pelt x2 will cost you $20.

And that’s how you will hunt down the Legendary Coyote in RDR2!
