Fortnite has enjoyed many crossovers with other pop media in the past. This includes the infamous Fortnite-Infinity War crossover last year which saw Thanos doing the Fortnite dance. And now, according to speculations, IT will crossover with Fortnite.

As much as you try to rationalize it, it sounds insane. IT: Chapter 2 has a lot of grown up themes, gory horror and actual horror. Fortnite, a game which has mostly teenagers and younger children at the core of its player base. Throwing them together would not make sense?

And that’s why it might turn out to be a fake rumor. No such plans have been announced by Epic Games. They haven’t even mentioned thoughts about it. Why then, is there such a rumor?

It all comes down to dataminers who found files that seem to reference IT: Chapter Two. More specifically, well-known Fortnite dataminer FortTroy has unearthed a creepy and unnerving laugh that sounds awfully similar to Pennywise. Apart from this, a file for a “creepy” white balloon was also found.

There’s a chance that this could just be an Easter egg. Especially since Halloween is coming soon, this could just be a tribute to IT that will appear in the Hollywood update. But the coincidences are uncanny. In the past, paid crossovers have benefited both Fortnite and the media crossing over. So don’t be surprised if you see players floating via IT balloons and that too, soon.

Recently, there was a special event that took the battle royale game and infused it with Borderlands 3 content. Apart from that, crossovers for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile game are increasingly common. From Avengers to John Wick to the World Cup, if something is really popular, there’s a good chance it has been or will be in Fortnite at some point.

Fortnite is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
