New Dead Island 2 Developer, Dambuster Studios Takes The Helm For Game

Yet another new Dead Island 2 developer has been brought in to replace Sumo Digital, and we still have no idea when Dead Island 2 will release.

Ever since it was first unveiled at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 has had a rough life. Unfortunately, it’s about to get rougher as yet another new Dead Island 2 developer has been announced to be taking over the reins of development, this time from Sumo Digital, who took over from Yager Development.

Dead Island 2 is intended to be the sequel to the original Dead Island game and its standalone expansion, Dead Island Riptide, this time taking place on the mainland United States instead of on an isolated resort island out in the middle of the ocean.

However, since the game was revealed at E3, there’s been no footage, no progress updates, nothing except various announcements that the game is still coming, and announcements of new Dead Island 2 developer changes every few years.

Dambuster Studios doesn’t necessarily inspire confidence as a developer, either. The only game that they’ve developed was Homefront: The Revolution, a reboot of the original Homefront game that was criticized for a large number of technical issues and a lackluster story.

This is in contrast to Yager Development, who had developed Spec Ops: The Line, and Sumo Digital, who developed Crackdown 3 (though that game was also criticized, especially after the similarly long wait fans had had to go through to get it).

Since the original Dead Island game also received a rather lukewarm reception (especially after an advertising campaign that definitely got people talking about it), Dead Island 2 would be a way to get the series really rolling, if the game ever even comes out to begin with.

Now that yet another new Dead Island 2 developer is in the process of making the game, only time will tell just how much longer fans and gamers have to wait before the game comes out, and if it will even be worth playing.
