Modern Warfare Is A “Military Simulation” Not An Arcade Shooter

Call of Duty is a military simulation, according to the game's job listing by Infinity Ward. This is the first time a COD game isn't an arcade shooter.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is unlike the previous Call of Duty games. It should be clear by now that IW is taking a different route. We have heard so much about its realism but this is the first time we see a description for its new approach to gameplay. An Infinity Ward job listing refers Modern Warfare as a “military simulation.”

Infinity Ward is looking for an AI engineer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare. The AI engineer must have experience working on “military simulation” video games. The term says everything we need to know about the new Call of Duty game. Modern Warfare is not the same Call of Duty we know. Infinity Ward is dropping the arcade shooter style gameplay and level design.

Infinity Ward is currently seeking an AI Engineer to work on Call of Duty Modern Warfare. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience in a similar role. This is an opportunity to work on cutting edge AI in the world’s premiere FPS franchise. We’re looking for someone who comes to the table with new ideas, but has the pragmatism required to ship a video game.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in games, military simulation, or real-time AI.
  • 1 shipped title working as an AI or Gameplay Engineer.
  • Worked with AI decision frameworks.
  • Strong design sensibilities and outstanding communication skills.
  • Excellent debugging and performance analysis skills.
  • A love for competitive FPS play.
  • Strong 3D math and algebra skills as they relate to game programming.
  • Strong knowledge of C++ programming and practices.

At E3 this year Infinity Ward showed a behind closed doors demo. While some were too disturbed by its realism most came out of the presentation invested and interested in Modern Warfare 2019. Jackfrags did a video on this topic best explained what he saw in his recent post.

It seems very gritty, very realistic, and a definite change of pace for the franchise. It was really unlike anything that I had seen in a Call of Duty campaign. The combat was methodical, tactical, slow, and honestly it be more Rainbow Six or Swat vides than classic Call of Duty.

The way gameplay is described by someone who saw Modern Warfare clearly points to a proper military simulation. The game has faced some criticism over its new play style. There are graphics and intense moments in Modern Warfare campaign that aren’t suitable for some.

Modern Warfare does justice to its “Mature” rating. But despite criticism, Infinity Ward refuses to cut content from the game.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is releasing October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
