Mortal Kombat 11 Switch vs PS4 Comparison Shows the Graphics Fidelity And Sacrifices

Nintendo Switch is the weakest of the bunch and many are wondering how the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 compares to the console versions.

Mortal Kombat 11 is now out for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Nintendo Switch is the weakest of the bunch and many are wondering how the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 compares to the console versions.

That is why we are doing a Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Switch vs PS4 graphics comparison. This is to see the differences and the sacrifices made to have the game run smoothly on the hybrid console.

As you can see in the video below, courtesy of ContraNetwork, resolution is the obvious sacrifice. Given that Switch has weak hardware, it makes sense the devs would lower resolution.

Not only that, compared to the PS4 version the game has visible aliasing and the texture quality is obviously low to the point that some characters models have missing details. Furthermore, the SFX have also been toned down a bit.

However, given that Nintendo Switch has a small handheld screen, these sacrifices won’t matter much unless you are nit-picky. But in docked mode, low texture quality, visible aliasing and more will become bothersome.

In terms of FPS, the game targets 60 FPS on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Interestingly, Mortal Kombat 11 Switch version does a better job of maintaining 60 FPS compared to the PS4 version.

As you can see in the video, the game PS4 version’s FPS occasionally drops to lower 50s. The fatalities are locked at 30 FPS to make them look cinematic.

Mortal Kombat games have always featured story modes and Mortal Kombat 11 is no exception. However, this time around the developer NetherRealm Studios is touting the Mortal Kombat 11 story mode to be their biggest one yet.

What’s a Mortal Kombat game without gore and the gore is the reason why many games are banned in some countries. Mortal Kombat 11 has been banned from releasing in Japan and Indonesia due to gore.

The developers could tone or remove the gore to have the game released in these countries. However, these countries are not that big of a market and removing gore from Mortal Kombat would be like to take away its soul.

Aside from that, Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters have leaked. Interestingly, the game is getting a touch of Evil Dead as Ash is one of the leaked DLC characters for the game.

Bringing the Evil Dead protagonist to Mortal Kombat makes sense since both franchises feature over-the-top gore and violence.

Mortal Kombat 11 is a fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
