God Of War PS4 Director Initially Didn’t Envision Atreus As Kratos’ “Biological Son”

Father/son dynamic was one of the things that made it an incredible game. However, God Of War PS4 director didn't envision Atreus as Kratos' son.

God of War PS4 is one of the best PS4 exclusives and one of the best games on this console generation. The father/son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus was one of the many factors that made God Of War PS4 an incredible game. However, God Of War PS4 director, initially, didn’t envision Atreus has Kratos’ “biological son”.

Speaking with VentureBeat, God Of War PS4 director, Cory Barlog, talked about how he approached the game’s development. According to Cory, Atreus was going to be just a kid there and players were never going to understand why he is there.

The father-son came first and then the Norse myths came second. When I first started talking to Shannon, I think in maybe February 2013, the idea was germinating. I didn’t verbalize it very eloquently.

But when I got to the studio in June, I started talking to everybody about, all right—the first idea wasn’t that he was his biological son. We were going to have this kid there and you were never going to understand why he was even there.

However, this didn’t make it into the final game as Atreus is Kratos’ son in God Of War PS4. Given that it never made it into the final game, we will never know how it would have turned out.

However, from the sound of it, seems like Sony Santa Monica was going Ellie and Joel dynamic from The Last of Us, another excellent PlayStation exclusive.

Whichever way this would have turned out to be, the fact remains that God Of War PS4 is one of the best games of this generation.

Speaking of God of War PS4 director, Barlog not only worked in the game industry but, has worked in the film industry too. Recently, Warcraft movie director, Duncan Jones revealed that he met with Cory Barlog as he wanted his opinion on a script.

Furthermore, God Of War Ps4 director has also seen exclusive Death Stranding gameplay. However, he didn’t reveal anything about the game, probably out of respect for Hideo Kojima’s wish.

Not only that, Barlog is working on the next God Of War. The hint about the God Of War PS4 sequel comes from the profile of Koray Hagen, a developer at Sony Sant Monica.

God Of War PS4 is an action-adventure game developed by Sony Santa Monica. The game is available exclusively for PlayStation 4.
