A new Nintendo Switch Pokemon game is apparently going to be coming to the console sometime in 2019, at least according to Tsunekazu Ishihara, the CEO of the Pokemon Company. There have been various hints about a new game for several months, even beyond the Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee games.
It’s been rumored for several years that we’d be getting a Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch, even after the announcement of the Eevee and Pikachu games. While there’s been no indication of an actual main-series Pokemon game on the 3DS, a new Nintendo Switch Pokemon game could possibly be the next mainline game.
While Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee was the most graphically impressive Pokemon game released yet, it was a game that was heavily geared towards the sort of people that got into Pokemon through Pokemon Go, and was mainly used as a nostalgia trip for many other Pokemon fans and lacked a number of other qualities from classic Pokemon games.
If the upcoming new Nintendo Switch Pokemon game is different from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, we’ll either get another side game geared towards a different sort of audience (whether Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or some other spinoff), or a new mainline Pokemon game with a new region and new Pokemon. The latter is more likely, especially with the reveal of Meltan as a new Pokemon that might make an appearance in the next region.
However, we’ve gotten no details about what this new Pokemon game will be involving, so we’ll have to wait for a Nintendo Direct or Nintendo’s E3 2019 appearance to see exactly what they’re going to be giving us with a new Nintendo Switch Pokemon game remains to be seen. In the meantime, there’s a lot of different Nintendo Switch games coming out that you can play.
