Pillars Of Eternity 2 Console Port Will Still Be Coming, Releases In 2019

The Pillars of Eternity 2 console ports will still be coming despite the studio's acquisition by Microsoft and a less successful release than the first.

A Pillars of Eternity 2 console port will still be coming for the Obsidian RPG, even after that was put slightly in doubt by the studio’s acquisition by Microsoft. Pillars of Eternity 2 is the sequel to the original Pillars of Eternity game, which came out in 2015 and got critical acclaim.

Pillars of Eternity 2 continues to tell the story of a player character known only to many as the Watcher, who is unique among the rest of the world in that they can remember past lives lived through the wheel of reincarnation that governs life and death in the world, granting them immense power and notice by the gods.

Pillars of Eternity 2 is sparked when a statue of a god known as Eothas, thought dead for years, comes to life beneath their castle and destroys it, leaving the player character to gather companions to chase the god down and find out why it came to life.

While Pillars of Eternity, when it released in 2015, got critical acclaim and high sales that not only allowed Obsidian Entertainment to continue its existence, but brought the studio into the spotlight again, Pillars of Eternity 2’s success hasn’t been as notable. While the game was successful and got good reviews, it hasn’t generated the same amount of buzz as the original game.

Further doubt was cast on the game when it was revealed that Obsidian Entertainment would be joining the Microsoft family as part of a sweeping series of acquisitions by the company, which it announced at E3. Despite fears that Microsoft wouldn’t allow Obsidian to do the Pillars of Eternity 2 console ports, they’re thankfully still coming.

While we don’t have an exact date for when they’ll be coming, we do know that it’ll be sometime next year, and they’ll be coming out on all major consoles, including Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

If you don’t own the game on PC already, you can grab one of the Pillars of Eternity 2 console ports when they come out in 2019.
