Sony just announced PS4 crossplay feature for Fortnite which means you will soon be able to play with players on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC. However, the feature is incomplete without the ability to unlink your PlayStation account from Epic Games account. It becomes an issue if you set up a ghost Epic account to play Fortnite on PS4 if your main account was banned by Sony for playing on other platforms.
Thankfully, Epic Games has announced a solution that will roll out in a few days. Meanwhile, another feature will allow players to merge account come November.
Once features rollout PS4 Fortnite crossplay will work without any hiccups. Prior to this, any Epic account linked with PlayStation would get banned if used on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Live, and PC. No ban hammer will drop if you use your Epic account on platforms other than PlayStation.
Crossplay feature is something Sony has ignored for a while and faced plenty of criticism. The company made a couple of ridiculous statements over the lack of Fortnite crossplay which backfired.
On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.
Sony has now stepped backed from its stubborn stance and allowed Fortnite crossplay on PS4. Hopefully, other games will follow, especially, now that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is rolling out. Black Ops 4, Battlefield V, and others could definitely benefit from PS4 crossplay feature.
Sadly, Treyarch confirmed the lack of crossplay in Black Ops 4 but now that Sony has changed its policy, Treyarch may as well change its mind.
