Battle Royale saw a sudden boom in popularity with PUBG entering early access in 2017 and then other games started to feature Battle Royale mode and Fortnite was one of them and now Fortnite Battle Royale has surpassed GTA V in terms of monthly active users.

Fortnite Battle Royale surpassing GTA V in terms of monthly active users is no small feat considering Fortnite is not even a year old game and GTA V is one of the best selling games of all time with a constant healthy player base since its launch in 2013.

According to the report from SuperData, Fortnite Battle Royale has surpassed GTA V in monthly active users, however, the report doesn’t reveal any specific numbers for the game’s active player base.

Epic’s Battle Royale title showed no signs of losing steam. Fortnite earned more additional content revenue on console than any game other than Call of Duty: WWII and now has more monthly active users than Grand Theft Auto V.

It is important to note that Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play title as opposed to GTA V, so it makes sense that the game has surpassed GTA V. But still, it is an incredible feat since many other free-to-play games don’t reach this level of active users.

According to the report, not only Fortnite benefited from being a free-to-play title but also helped the free-to-play console market to grow 359% compared to last year.

In related news, Epic Games has revealed its plans to introduce cross-platform play for Fortnite and they are not alone as Xbox boss, Phil Spencer also wants Firtnite Cross-platform play. However, Sony is the main hurdle that is stopping Microsoft and Epic Games from achieving this goal.
