Call of Duty voice actor Craig Fairbrass (who played Gazz and Ghost in Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2) might have just leaked that a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 might be in the making. Whether or not it’s true remains to be seen, but it’d be a boon for Infinity Ward.
Infinity Ward was the studio that originally made the Call of Duty Modern Warfare games, and even generated a huge amount of controversy after Activision fired the studio’s heads when they wanted control of the series. Those two, along with a number of other Infinity Ward employees, left the studio to form Respawn Entertainment, who then made the Titanfall games.
The possibility of a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is a rather odd thing for Activision and Infinity Ward to try; the games ended with its plot neatly wrapped up, all of its villains dead, and the war between Russia and the United States ended. What exactly the plot would be in a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 remains to be seen.
At the same time, it might just be what Infinity Ward needs in order to get back into the good graces of Call of Duty gamers. While the Modern Warfare games were some of Infinity Ward‘s best, the last few games from the company haven’t been received as well. Both Call of Duty Ghosts and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare weren’t well-received by fans.
While Infinite Warfare got praise for its single-player mode, its multiplayer was criticized for a lack of innovation. Call of Duty Ghosts got the opposite reaction; critics praised its multiplayer but criticized its single-player for rehashing concepts and for an ambiguous ending to the story.
That’s not even getting into the negative backlash to Infinite Warfare’s announcement, which became the second-most disliked video on YouTube.
Whether or not a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is actually coming remains to be seen, but we’ll just have to wait and find out.
