First Look at the New Captain America Shield in Avengers: Infinity War

In addition to his new look, a darker suit coupled with a bearded warface, Captain America will be battling the dark forces of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War with a new shield as well.

In addition to his new look, a darker suit coupled with a bearded warface, Captain America will be battling the dark forces of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War with a new shield as well.

The superhero previously abandoned his signature discus-shield at the feet of Iron Man in the events of Captain America: Civil War before going into hiding. The galactic threat to Earth in Avengers: Infinity War will eventually have him report back to the frontlines, but it appears that he will do so with a new weapon of choice.

The new action figures for Avengers: Infinity War in the Marvel Legends lineup were leaked earlier today. The Captain America edition has him wielding a new heater shield with an extended bottom. The color palette moves away from the familiar red-and-blue for a dark silver-grey highlight. There are also no stars on the face with this new model.

In the recently released trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, T’Challa orders the Wakandans to “get this man a shield” after telling them to prepare all defenses for the city. Wakanda is home to Vibranium, an alien ore with the unique property of absorbing almost limitless kinetic energy. The Black Panther suit is woven with the same substance, and the shield of Captain America was made with Vibranium in the comic books as well. Hence, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally catching up to the original works in some degree.

Captain America is not the only one getting a new weapon in the upcoming highly anticipated movie. Thor will be wielding Jarnbjorn, a gigantic battle axe, instead of Mjolnir since the mystical hammer was destroyed by the bare hands of Hela in Thor: Ragnarok.

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018. The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
