Microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2 seem to be the hottest topic these days. EA and DICE’s decision to implement “mandatory” loot boxes in the game has made the community furious and, on top of that, the companies announced that they are keeping microtransactions disabled for a few days to figure things out. Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind God of War, has responded to this matter in an ironic way, to say the least.
God of War creative director, Cory Barlog has posted on his personal account on Twitter a GIF of Kratos smashing a box with the description “Take that Loot Boxes!!! (for now, at least)”. Seeing Kratos punching that box to ashes is just what we wanted to see to get that “EA microtransactions” conversation over with.

Cory Barlog, who clearly has a tendency to get a bit salty over EA’s management, recently took to Twitter to defend linear games saying that he loves linear games and it saddens him that linear games are being considered as a bad thing by game publishers like EA. “I love linear single player games. Saddens me when the word linear is considered a bad thing. You can have agency in a linear story game.”
EA seems to have been taking the “Games as Services” model way to far and this seems to be raising concern for all industry. Even though the term is not negative and stands for titles that are either annual franchises or ever-evolving ones, companies like EA is taking advantage of the replayability that they offer to get greedy.
This isn’t the first time Sony Santa Monica makes a hit on EA, with a recent one being when EA announced that they are proceeding to the closure of Visceral Games studio. The studio then posted on Twitter that they are reaching to all fired developers to send their application and get involved with God of War development.
