17 Minutes Of New Code Vein Gameplay Shows How The Game Plays
It’s been said a lot lately that Namco-Bandai’s Code Vein game will basically be Anime Dark Souls, and with the new Code Vein gameplay that IGN has posted on its YouTube channel, it appears that they aren’t that far off. The gameplay does appear to be very Souls-like, and here’s how.
To start with, there’s the environment. Much like the Souls games, players will be going out into a devastated world crawling with monsters, facing off against various bosses while absorbing things off of monsters to get stronger as the game progresses. Combat feels identical, though shields don’t appear to be a part of the game.
Much like Bloodborne, therefore, it appears that players may rely more on dodging for avoiding damage, rather than hiding behind a shield. Players also have magic that they can use to damage enemies or lure them towards you, and can also swap between weapons, like going from a regular sword to a giant axe in order to execute a dropping attack. Players even respawn at a bonfire-looking object whenever they’re killed.
However, there are a few differences. Aside from the story and the art style, the game gives players a party member that they can travel with throughout the story and world, rather than players being alone the entire time except when they call in a friendly player to help them beat a boss.
However, just because the Code Vein gameplay looks a lot like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its own merit. The world looks beautiful, and it actually looks like you’re walking through a devastated city. The graphics are also top-notch, and your characters also look pretty good when they walk around.
Code Vein is supposed to be released sometime in 2018 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. To see some of the Code Vein gameplay for yourself, look further up the article.
