Tekken 7 Paul Strategy Guide

Playing as Paul

Paul is one of the classic characters in the game. Since his ranged game is not great, you need to close in the gap and force your opponent into committing a mistake after getting confused by your hard-hitting mix-ups. At close-range, his Demoman allows him to knock his opponent down that you can mix with his qcf + 2. Moreover, thanks to his incredible homing attacks, your opponent will have to think twice before committing to sidestepping game.

Not only his homing attacks are ‘+’ on-block, he also has a i12 high homing and a CH mid launcher. In addition to this, he also has a backsway with its own attacks. Coming to his punishment, he has a i14 standing launcher and a WS i13 punisher. Basically, his punishing attacks are fairly decent and deal good damage. On the other hand, he has poor low attacks that can easily be read and lack range. Therefore, you must be careful with them.

Coming to his combo potential, he has u/f + 4 and d/f + 2 as a couple of launchers. As a beginner combo, you can try d/f + 2, 3, 2, b + 1, 2, Screw!, qcf + 2. In case you don’t know, you need to perform the last ‘qcf’ exactly like Hadouken in Street Fighter games. If you need something a little advanced, you can use d/f + 2, qcf + 1, 1, b + 1, 2, Screw!, Forward Dash, d + 4, 1, 1 + 2. Connecting the final 1 + 2 after d + 4, 1 requires extremely strict timing and you must practice it for this damaging combo if you want to avoid 50/50. When it comes to wall combos, you need to go with 3, 2 into d + 1 + 2.

Overall, Paul in Tekken 7 has incredible damage output, a strong wall game, above-average punishment, incredibly good homing attacks, and plenty of safe launchers. However, he does lack when it comes to low attacks.
