After much rumors and speculations, Activision announced Destiny 2. While the first game was a console exclusive title, but the sequel will launch for PC alongside the consoles.
However, the reveal of Destiny 2 has left many wondering if the game could come to Nintendo’s latest console, Nintendo Switch.
First of all, given that Bungie is yet to comment on this matter all we can do is speculate. However, In my opinion, it is highly unlikely that Destiny 2 would ever release for Nintendo Switch.
The reasons for that are quite simple!
Switch’s Hardware Is not Powerful Enough
Nintendo Switch might not be powerful enough to handle the game at 30 FPS. While Nintendo Switch uses a custom Tegra processor, but it is no way powerful enough to handle the port for a game that was designed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
As Destiny 2 has left behind Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which means the game is designed to take advantage of the full power of the current gen consoles.
Secondly, even if there is a way to optimize the Destiny 2 for Nintendo Switch, it would only increase the development cost for the game, as the developers not only need to port the game but will have to optimize it to the console’s architecture.
Always Online Connectivity
Furthermore, Destiny requires an online connection to play it which would prove problematic for the Nintendo Switch owners. Since Switch is a part handheld, the majority have bought the console for its portability meaning players will be moving while playing a game and an internet connection in this situation is not guaranteed.
As a Switch Owner, I would not be interested at all in a game that I might not be able to play while traveling.
With all said and done, it is not a crime to dream for Destiny 2 to release for Nintendo Switch, as the console itself has a significant install base, this is all just speculation, we will know for sure once Activision official releases a statement on the matter.
