Nintendo Switch Uses Samsung LPDDR4 4GB RAM

Since the journalists are receiving the Nintendo Switch press units for reviews, recently a hardware tear-down of Nintendo Switch shows that it has 4GB of Samsung LPDDR4-1600 RAM memory. The recent tear-down of Nintendo Switch was found at Chinese website Tabao. Check out the image below for more on the RAM image.

The picture quality of PCB shown above is unclear; much detail cannot be said for sure. However, the expert’s consensus is that the SDRAM modules are K4F2E304HBMGCH modules also described as “Samsung LPDDR4 DRAM Chip Mobile LPDDR4 DRAM. There are two RAM each of 2GB and totaling a 4GB Samsung LPDDR4 RAM for Switch system.

The specifications listed on Samsung’s website for Samsung LPDDR4 RAM are:

  • Speed 3200Mbps
  • Package 200FBGA
  • Vdd & Vddq 1.8V / 1.1V
  • Temperature -25°C ~ 85°C
  • Production Status Mass Production
  • Application ULT, Tablet
  • Max Frequency 2666MHz
  • Density 16 Gb (16 gigabits = 2 gigabytes)
  • Organization x32

It is to be noted that nothing is confirmed as of yet. Until Chinese poster uploads are clear versions of Switch’s PCB or we wait till the official release window of Nintendo Switch so as to get a better insight on Nintendo Switch’s hardware. Switch is all set to launch on March 3, 2017 for $299.

In parallel news, the user interface (UI) of Nintendo Switch has been leaked recently. Finally, we have something relevant to talk about for what concerns Nintendo’s newest console. User Hiphoptherobot, in fact, has received an early copy of the console and has managed to post on Vid.me a video showing Nintendo Switch UI.

In the said video we can see the user doing basic things such as choosing the nickname or playing with the settings, but the most important elements here are the intuitive menu and the responsive touchscreen.
