Bad news for all of you Spiderman fans out there; apparently the Spiderman PS4 game that was announced at E3 2016 will not be coming to this year’s Playstation Experience in Anaheim, California, or at The Game Awards tonight. Considering we’ve only gotten a trailer for the game and no gameplay, it’s likely a letdown for many fans of the superhero.
There hasn’t been a good Spiderman game in several years, so the new Spiderman PS4 game, which is being developed by Insomniac Games, generated a very large amount of anticipation when it was announced. Unfortunately, since it won’t be coming to Playstation Experience or The Game Awards, it’ll likely be a while before we get to see any gameplay from it.
The game will be a rather interesting departure from other Spiderman games (and even some Spiderman movies); instead of focusing on Peter Parker’s origin story (getting bit by a radioactive spider during a trip to OzCorp, having his uncle Ben killed by a mugger), the game will be focusing on an older and experienced Spiderman, using an original story with no ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The game will also be open-world, giving Spiderman the run of Manhattan.
Considering that Spider Man: Homecoming, the most recent entry to the Spider Man film series and the one that will actually tie into the rest of the MCU given Peter Parker’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War, it may be a good thing to match the game’s setup to the Homecoming movie.
We have no idea when the Spiderman PS4 game will be releasing, or when we’ll be seeing any gameplay or new trailers of it, but hopefully in the meantime we’ll still be seeing a ton of good stuff at the Playstation Experience and The Game Awards this week.
